AN: This chapter came out a bit more humor-infused than I intended. O_o  Oh well.

Chapter Five: Rita Lauren

We continue to go around the room making small talk with people, hoping to get a better feel for what this event details. The opening speech unfortunately didn’t provide us with anything even remotely useful. So far, what we know is that this event is for some group called the Heritage Party, and they use the slogan “What cannot be erased shall not be forgotten.”

After talking with several groups of people, May and I discover a couple of important facts: the man who made the opening announcement is named Guy Jones (a rather boring name for a rather influential man; he is one of the lead organizers of the Heritage Party’s functions), and that most of the people attending this event have no effing idea what they are doing here. It seems that they have been recruited to this event in much the same way May was – through scouts lounging around in South Lake bars, parks, and other such gathering places. Chapter Three: Rita Lauren

The next couple morning hours pass by quickly because I am so focused. Even now I can’t take my eyes away from the files. I look for anything to do with “green lights” or “cult circles” – anything related to what we saw that day in the forest. I sigh and prepare to take a short break, but the last file I look at has something interesting written in it that catches my eye.

Lander May. Specifically, it is a report given to the police by him stating he witnessed suspicious, possibly criminal activity and was victim of a very criminal attack. His statement mentions he encountered a cult circle, barely making it out alive once they discovered he was snooping. Unfortunately, there is no mention of magic written anywhere. But then I do a double-take at the date of the case. 150 years ago!? Holy – just how old is this guy!? Continue reading «Chapter Three: Rita Lauren»

Chapter One: Rita Lauren

Me and Venkat wanted to try our hands at writing something, so we came up with a splendid fantastical crime-solving magical mystery story idea. He and I will take turns writing it, similar to the other story. So it has no real plot yet.

Please don”t take this story too seriously. It”s not meant to be accurate at all.

Okay hope you enjoy!

Chapter One: Rita Lauren

What cannot be erased shall not be forgotten.

A life is made up of moments, and in a moment a life can end, sometimes naturally and sometimes at the cruel hands of others. There are all sorts of dangers out there lying in wait, but we don’t always have to be the victims. We can choose to be the protectors.

I, Rita Lauren, have taken the oath to be one of those protectors. I didn’t do it out of a sense of purpose. But now that I’m here I might as well act like I should – like a detective of the local police department. Fight the baddies (read as “sit on my ass all day”), get paid a somewhat decent salary, and hopefully, if I’m lucky, find my purpose and live life happily ever after.

3.

Marvelous. Truly, incredibly fantastic.

Gregums the Grubber snickers quietly and gives himself a pat on the back, crouched over the hole in the ceiling. His dark hair partially covers his eyes which glint with promise of a hopeful future. He is going to make himself a rich imp, and he is going to impress the imp ladies. All he needs is for this depressive bunch to bump heads a little.

He thinks back to the time his siblings used to kick him around for being small, teasing him mercilessly. Well, what are they to him now? They are stuck in the tedium of their lives, just scrounging to get by, while here he is on a journey to change everything. Sure, the others in the room below will probably hate him for all eternity, but if it allows him to achieve his happily-ever-after – a farm, a beautiful girl, maybe a cow or three, and some corn fields – then it is all worth it.

Now, Gregums thinks, it’s time for the real show to start.
